BHS Tennis teams have hit the courts

Berrien High School tennis teams began their season on Monday, February 10 with matches at Ware County.  Both the Lady Rebels and Rebels defeated the teams from Ware with the girls winning in a shut out by the score of 5 to 0 and the boys by the score of 3 to 2.

The next match was against Tift County at home on Wednesday, February 12. The Lady Rebels again defeated the Tift girls with a shut out win by the score of 4 to 0. The Rebels also won their match by a score of 3 to 2.

On Thursday, February 20, the Thomasville Bulldogs came to Nashville for region matches against the Lady Rebels and Rebels. The Lady Rebels continued their winning ways defeating the ladies from Thomasville by a score of 4 to 1 for their first region win of the season. The Rebels lost their match by a score of 2 to 3.

Tuesday, February 25 the BHS teams headed to Early County for another region match. The girls continued to notch out a win by the score of 5 to 0 and won their second region win of the season. The boys came up short losing their match 1 to 4.

The BHS Junior Varsity team played their first match on Thursday, February 27 against region opponent Brooks County in Nashville. Both the boys and girls JV team shut out the Trojans by a score of 3 to 0.

The BHS teams headed to the Valdosta Wildcat Invitational Tournament to compete against higher classification schools from across the area on Friday, February 28 and Saturday, February 29. During the tournament, the Lady Rebels defeated Crisp County 4 to 1, lost to Valdosta High School 0 to 5, and lost to Pierce County by a score of 4 to 1. They ended the tournament in 4th place.  The Rebels started the tournament in a match against Lowndes County and were defeated by a score of 0 to 5. The guys turned up their play in their next two matches and defeated Lee County in a shut out 5 to 0 and Thomas Central of Thomasville by a score of 2 to 1. The Rebels finished the tournament in 5th place.

In the Valdosta Wildcat Invitational Tournament, the Berrien teams were the only AA school competing. The other schools entered in the tournament were AAA and above.

The rainy weather conditions prevented the tennis teams from competing in a scheduled match against Fitzgerald on Thursday, March 5.

The Lady Rebels are now 5 and 0 for the season and 2 and 0 in region play. The Rebels are 4 and 3 overall and 0 for 2 in region play.

Members of the 2020 BHS Girls Tennis Team are Senior Riley Griffin, Junior Sarah Forehand, Junior Morgan Nix, Junior Grace Schools, Sophomore Grace Barfield, Sophomore Sara Kilpatrick, Sophomore Carrie Osborne, Sophomore Dana Vickers, Freshman Brooklyn Cersey, Freshman Lexi Knight, and Freshman Mattie Mae Mathis. The girls team is coached by Head Coach Jarrett Luke.

Members of the 2020 BHS Boys Tennis Team are Jaden Barnett, Hayden Brusque, Justin Cole, Jake Green, Larry Hon, Luke Johnson, Krishn Rana, Mason Sikes, Cannon Simmons, Hampton Sirmans, Brody Spruill, and Chason Warren.  The boys team is coached by Head Coach Steven Roberts.
